Who we are

A farm, a family, a legacy

Schmid Urspring Farm is more than a name, it’s a family’s business since 200 years. From 18th century working draft horses to modern Sporthorse competing at highest levels, from broodmare to Olympic contender, from filly to stallion – with empathy and understanding we want our horseworld to be the best possible place to be.

Our history

A continued legacy

The small village of Urspring was first mentioned in 1556. and has the longstanding heritage in horses as the Urspring area was regarded to mark the halfway point between Paris and Vienna, a busy trade route. Since goods were mainly transported with carriages, horses have always been indispensable. The farm itself was noted first in 1799 with the breeding of draft horses for agriculture. Today, the farm has adapted to contemporary needs, specializing in the rearing and training of around 70 horses for various equestrian disciplines with an emphasis on Eventing and ShowJumping. Our family-run enterprise is dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of horses for sale, from broodmares and foals to trained horses, catering to both amateur and professional riders alike.

OUR Team

Julia Schmid

Raised by two experienced equestrians, Julia embarked on her riding journey at the tender age of seven, entering the competitive world of eventing just three years later. With her first pony, Mevely, both novices in the sport, Julia quickly learned the art of training horses from scratch. This foundation led her to the European Championships in 1995, while simultaneously preparing numerous youngsters for all three equestrian disciplines. To date, Julia has guided over 200 young horses to their first awards in eventing, dressage, and show jumping, A Masters Degree in Economics (Dipl. Betriebswirt) and a Master in Horse Management and Training (“Pferdewirtschaftsmeister”) prove her expertise.

Julia has achieved significant success, reaching the Intermediate I (“S”) level in dressage, placed up 1.40 meter show jumping competitions, and competing up to the CCI*** level in eventing. She particularly enjoys discovering and nurturing the potential in 4- and 5 year old horses, patiently developing their skills. Many of her trained horses have secured top positions in the various young horse finals, and quite a few have advanced to 4 and 5-star levels, European and World Championships under the worlds top riders like Michael Jung (GER), Shane Rose (AUS), Clayton Fredericks (AUS), Tina Cook (UK) or Tamie Smith (USA).
